Blast Off! Ghana Here We Come!

Posted in Prayer Requests and tagged: ,

Today is the day!  At 8 a.m. this morning our team of 14 will be meeting to pack our carry on luggage in with the 28 tubs containing everything we need for camp.

We will drive to JFK airport in New York City, check in previously mentioned tubs, go through security, and wait in anticipation to board our flight to Ghana at 535 p.m.

It’s a big day of travel and waiting followed by a 10 hour and 40 minute direct flight into the heart of Accra, the capital city of Ghana.  There we will be met by our wonderful, missionary friend, Philip Darko, and many of our other friends and partners from Handi-Vangelism Ministries.  Akwaaba  (Welcome) to Ghana!

This is the day we have been waiting for, and it’s almost impossible to wrap my mind around the fact that it is here.  This year’s camp dream began in January when applications were reviewed for team members.  That was followed by months of meeting, planning, shopping, fundraising, praying, working, and working some more. So when people ask me, “Doesn’t that take up a lot of your time?”  I say, “Absolutely!”  It’s not easy, but few valuable things in life are.  It’s not easy, but I often ask myself, “What would I rather do with my time, resources, money, and energy?” and the answer is “NOTHING!”

To see the children’s faces as they get off the bus…

To be there for their hugs as they greet us…

To hear their voices raising the roof as we worship together…

To witness their fervent prayers…

To hear their laughter…

It’s totally worth it.  I would do it all over again.  I hope I get another chance.  Next year, anyone?
